There are times throughout life when we all struggle. Counseling provides guidance and support to help you overcome challenges and promote self-improvement.
The foundation of my counseling style begins with building a strong, connected, and supportive therapeutic relationship. To help you grow and develop new skills, I utilize a combination of evidence-based clinical approaches:
- DBT/Dialectical Behavior Therapy: emphasizes teaching skills to live in the moment, develop healthy ways to cope with stress, regulate emotions, and improve relationships with others
- CBT/Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: focuses on changing automatic negative thoughts that can contribute to and worsen emotional difficulties, and substituting desirable patterns of thinking for faulty ones
- EMDR/Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing: utilizes rhythmic left-right (bilateral) stimulation to help recover from trauma or other disturbing life experiences.
No matter the approach, we will build upon your strengths to bridge the gap between where you are now and where you would like to be. We will uncover what’s holding you back and the obstacles getting in your way. And we will work towards solutions. Through the process of exploring and challenging your thinking patterns, we will identify unhelpful and unwanted thoughts, help you navigate your self-talk, and understand and work through your feelings with increased mindfulness and improved coping.
Our work together will provide you with tools you can use in your daily life with emphasis on building awareness, self-acceptance, and compassion. These skills include:
- mindfulness – staying present in the moment
- distress tolerance – getting through overwhelming emotions and difficult situations without making them worse, and developing emotional resilience
- emotion regulation – recognizing, observing, and exerting control over your emotions
- interpersonal effectiveness – building healthy relationships through boundary setting and effective communication
